LEO / Liu Chang

LEO (刘畅 / LIU Chang) is an artist and choreographer from Wuhan, China, working across performance, moving image, text, installation, and artistic research. Their practice is grounded in Performative Documentality and Sinic queer embodiment, asking how bodies, documents, images, archives, and historical fragments perform, misbehave, and contaminate one another.

Rather than treating identity or history as stable evidence, Leo works with what is missing, unstable, misread, or bodily remembered. Their current research moves through Chinese/Sinic bodily histories, queer affective traces, museum objects, ancient movement diagrams, and the politics of documentation. Based in Stockholm, Leo is currently studying in the New Performative Practices master’s programme at Stockholm University of the Arts and serves as Associate Artistic Director of Handen Art Terminal.
