Ting Wang is a Chinese-Swedish artist living in Sweden. Her experience of relocating into a new context has made displacement a long-standing theme of her artwork.
We live in a world experiencing mass cultural and identity displacement. Global homogenization and trends of cultural hybridisation are reducing cultural diversity; moreover, successive generations of technology amplify the gap between industrial production and human craftsmanship.
We are alienated by the society we have created. Through her experiments and works, she seeks to explore and address questions such as: What are the forms and postures through which one can interact with one's alienated identity and cultural roots? How can handmade practices, tradition, and heritage reorientate and participate in the new context?
Her practice is textile based multi-disciplinary art. Her interactive installations combine sound, sculpture, film and mechanical structures. Through these performative media, she wants to create an environment or a communication channel that involves the audience in her discussions.
Ting holds an MFA degree from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Sweden.
